Howard Diller, M.D., M.P.H.


Dr. Howard Diller has dedicated his life to the health, education and well-being of children. Following his graduation from Harvard College, he earned his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1951.

He interned in pediatrics at Children's Memorial Hospital in Montreal, and completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Speciality training in pediatric cardiology followed, also at Children's Medical Center.

In 1955 he joined the staff of Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California where he was associated for 30 years. He served as Chief of the Pediatrics Department and later was sub-chief of the Division of Urgent Care. He earned a Masters Degree in Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley in 1974.

Dr. Diller was the pediatric consultant to the Educationally Handicapped Program of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District in Contra Costa County, California. He and Jill Smith have collaborated on a number of research and teaching projects since 1967, when they both served the school district by evaluating children for special education programs including the school district program for students with learning disabilities.

Dr. Diller and Jill Smith were founding members of the non-profit organization, The Institute for Neuro Behavioral Studies.
